Why
book with a specialist?
It is the same price whether you book with the tour company
or with me. The tour company does not always have your
best interest at heart.
I constantly monitor the prices and if the brochure price
is published at a lesser price I will get the better price
for you. Tour companies
do not do this. They are in the business
of creating tours and do not have the time to answer all
of your questions
about the
trip. That is my job and I will get back to you in a timely
manner.
I am committed to finding you the best value for
your travel dollar. I will provide you with information
about what to take and wear, camera equipment tips, books
to read before departure, and the best times to visit different
parts of Africa.
I am trained by the South African Tourist Bureau, the
Kenya Tourist bureau and the Institute of Certified Travel
Agents in selling travel to Africa. It is my main business
and I know it well.
Can I travel alone?
A safari is ideal for a single traveler. You need never
be alone unless you prefer it. Both men and women travel
as singles and find Africa friendly and safe. Shared rooms
can be requested. If none is found a single supplement
will apply. Many young and active singles prefer to travel
on a camping overland participation safari, especially
if budget is a serious consideration.
Will there be inconveniences?
No many, but roads can be rough and dusty. There may be
times where planes do not run as scheduled.
It is not uncommon for a vehicle to breakdown. The most
important thing to remember is that Africa is a special
destination and what makes it special is that it is not
spoiled by tourism. If the bumpy roads are unacceptable,
there are usually flights. This does add to the cost of
the safari, but it converts wasted time on the road to
quality time viewing the wildlife.
What can be expected on Safari?
A warm and friendly welcome by the local people, no humidity,
comfortable temperature, a high degree of comfort, a variety
of delicious foods and exhausting, but exhilarating days.
An average day begins at dawn with a sunrise game drive.
Back to the lodge for a wonderful breakfast and your choice
of entrees. During the heat of the day, when the wildlife
is at rest, you too may wish to relax around the pool,
take a nap, write in your journal or swing in a hammock.
In
the afternoon, when the wildlife again comes alive, you
will
go for an afternoon game drive. In certain areas full day
game drives, a bush walk, a night drive, a trip to the
local village or other activity may be planned.
In the evening, everyone gathers to exchange stories of
the bush, while enjoying a beverage and dinner. Retire
early, as morning will bring another exciting day!
Is it safe to travel in Africa?
The continent of Africa is larger than all of Europe,
China, India, Argentina, New Zealand and the United States
put together. It consists of 54 countries with totally
unrelated political systems over 11,700,000 square miles.
What happens in one country does not necessarily affect
the others.
Think of it this way… if something happened in Canada,
would that affect your travel plans to Mexico?
There are
certain inherent risks no matter where you travel, but
chances of being involved in an incident are very small.
It is just not wise for tour companies to send you to
an area where they know there are problems. They are in
constant
contact with their international offices and continually
monitor any situations that might occur. We have the
ability to change your itinerary at the last minute and
would certainly
cancel a trip if you would be in harms way. You safety
and comfort in traveling are our main concern.
What about health precautions?
You will be advised at the time of booking about health
precautions that are required and recommended for your
trip. You must
check with your personal doctor before taking any medication.
Top medical care is available in the major cities. Hospitals
keep up to date on equipment and have a high standard of
testing. You may access the website http://www.travel.state.gov/foreignentryreqs.html for
information on passports, visas, and malaria preventatives
recommended or required, travel warnings and other information.
Should I join a group?
The advantage of a group safari is the chance to socialize
and meet with others who have similar interests. A private
safari has advantages for those who are serious photographers,
are taking children, or have their own idea about taking
a safari. On a private, custom trip the participants
take an active role in planning the trip. Conference calls
can
be arranged between the traveler, the tour company and
me.
Private, custom safaris are usually somewhat more expensive
than set departure brochure groups. However, they may be
necessary if you are using miles for air and working around
available air dates. We can customize the trip to your
flights. Many people also prefer to travel outside a group.
You will always share a vehicle and meals with other guests,
just not the same guests all the time. If your party is
5 or 6 people traveling together, you may have your own
vehicle depending on the size of the vehicle.
